Bolton CDP as part of her objective to empower women in the area of leadership and
entrepreneurship initiated the Women of Purpose conference in collaboration with the Institute of Directors (IoD), Precious Gems UK, African Council and Pentecostal Community Association (PCA). This conference aims to
bring women from the ethnic minority and deprived backgrounds together so they can
have a safe space to interact with women who have made their marks in their chosen
fields. It is hoped that this will give rise to confidence-building in the women and also
inspire them into positions of leadership and entrepreneurship.
The IoD brought world-class speakers for the event, while Bolton CDP and other
partners were responsible for hosting the event. We had in attendance of 170 women
from ethnic minority backgrounds across Manchester, and the meeting was inspiring. So
far more than ten women have gone ahead to set up their own businesses. Some are
already working towards becoming Non-executive roles in companies.
